Morocco Motorcycle Trip Guide: Everything You Need to Know
Visas, paperwork, fuel, water, the police, and what nobody tells you.
First time touring in Morocco? Read this twice. It will save you three hours and one argument.
Paperwork
EU, UK, US, Canadian and Australian passports get 90 days on arrival, no visa. If you ride your own bike in, you need its carte grise and your driving licence — an International Driving Permit is recommended though rarely checked.
Fuel
Petrol is around €1.30/L (2026). Stations are everywhere on tarmac routes, sparse on the piste. Carry an extra 5 L if you venture past Erfoud. Diesel is half a euro cheaper if your rental is diesel.
Water
Drink the bottled stuff. 3 L per person per riding day is the rule. The tap water is mostly safe but your stomach hasn't met it before.
The Gendarmerie
Stay calm. Smile. Have your licence ready. They are professional and friendly nine times out of ten — and the tenth, well, no fine is ever larger than €30.
When to ride
October–April for the south. March–November for the Atlas. Avoid Ramadan if you can — restaurants on small roads are closed during daylight.
